Rocky Mountain Raceway (MX), located in West Valley City just southwest of Salt Lake City, offers a convenient motocross option for riders in the valley. This track operates in conjunction with the larger Rocky Mountain Raceway complex that is known for its drag racing strip, providing a multi-discipline motorsports hub for the region. Expect amateur racing events and designated practice days that cater to a range of skill levels. Given its location near the foothills, you'll likely experience the visual benefit of the surrounding mountains, adding to the experience of riding. Being one of the few dedicated motocross facilities readily accessible from the Salt Lake metropolitan area, Rocky Mountain Raceway fills an important need for local riders. It's a great spot for honing your skills, participating in friendly competitions, and generally getting your MX fix without having to travel long distances. While primarily catering to amateur racers, the track likely provides a good introduction to the sport for newcomers and a regular practice venue for more seasoned riders.

Know Before You Go

Open practice days
Most MX parks run open practice on weekends for $25-50. Sign in at the gate, sign a waiver, and ride your allotted moto groups (typically 30 min on, 30 off).
Required gear
Helmet (DOT or Snell M-rated), goggles, gloves, chest protector, knee/shin guards, boots, and a full-sleeve jersey. Most tracks won't let you ride without all of it.
Class structure
Tracks separate riders by bike size (50cc / 65cc / 85cc / 250cc / 450cc) and by skill (beginner / novice / intermediate / pro). Sessions rotate through the day.
Track conditions
Tracks get watered before sessions and groomed between motos. Soft loam in the morning hardens into ruts by afternoon — adjust suspension and tire pressure.
