Run Group

A 'Run Group' is a skill-based grouping of drivers at a track day, High Performance Driver Education (HPDE), or open lapping event, dictating when they're allowed on track.

The concept of Run Groups arose from the need to safely manage track time at HPDE events and open lapping days. Grouping drivers by experience and skill level allows for safer and more productive sessions, minimizing the risk of incidents between novice and experienced drivers. This is achieved through an initial assessment or self-assessment of driving experience.

Run Groups are typically structured to include Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, and sometimes Instructor groups. Novice drivers often receive close supervision and instruction, while advanced drivers have more autonomy. The goal is to provide a learning environment appropriate for each driver's abilities, ensuring they progress safely and enjoyably.

Participants typically move between run groups based on demonstrating improved driving skills and meeting specific requirements set by the event organizers.
